Not that long ago, I was down, getting weak, fat, and broke...

I woke up one day having dug myself into a mountain of debt over a very short period, gained around 10 pounds of pure fat, and found my business at a stalemate.

In short, I'd allowed a little bit of success make me soft, and now everything I had worked for was being flushed away...
To be honest, it’s hard to write this, to admit this to others. I take pride in being disciplined, in shape, and constantly pushing myself. For a period though… 

I was uncharacteristically unmotivated.

I was uncharacteristically undisciplined.

I was a shell of who I normally was and not anywhere near who I could become.

And it may seem insignificant, but it all started when… 
I DIDN'T DO WHAT I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE DOING
That's how a decline happens, one bad decision at a time...

Years ago I read a Steve Nash quote, where he said he never missed a workout because that would give him an excuse to miss another.

This decline I created happened quickly. It started with a single missed workout, a pushed deadline in work, chores skipped around the house, that all added up and piled on top of one another.

We end up becoming men far below who we could be one bad decision at a time..
ONE WEAK DECISION AT A TIME
I realized I didn’t want to do anything.

It seemed like everything was a struggle.

And as I let this weakness invade more and more into my life, mediocrity became the norm...

Today business is thriving, I've got an incredible woman, I've written two books in the past year, traveled all over the world - and I don't say that to brag, not at all.

I just say that to highlight a simple fact: We are the masters of our fate, and every situation can turn on a dime if we decide to make it so (for good and for bad).
FACT:
THERE’S NOTHING WORSE A MAN CAN BE THAN SOFT
One immediate realization I had, and a gauge I use now, is if I don’t feel like doing something, that’s usually a good sign that I have to do it. That this thing that I want to avoid is the very thing I must do.

I do that now thanks to outlawed principles that I’ll tell you about in a bit, principles that helped me get back on track FAST, point my life in an ambitious direction, and win every single day…

These principles made me tougher, tougher than I was when I was boxing, they helped me build my ideal body even in my mid-thirties, and they helped me reach me win a woman who’s beyond anything I knew even existed…

...But for a period, I was in a massive funk.

I wasn’t going anywhere. I was regressing.

Maybe you're there, or maybe you just want to be better.

Heck, even today I want to be a hell of a lot better, I'm nowhere NEAR where I want to be, but that's where I'm heading because of some habits I've developed, programs I've created and followed, programs that fly against where society is heading, and where society wants to take its men...

It doesn't matter how ambitious your idea of success is...

It doesn't matter what you're aiming to achieve in life, it's won only when you become 'an ALPHA' - that is, when you move as close to your potential as you can possibly move, and that's done through training, not by waiting and wishing!

For years I’ve been a fan of Theodore Roosevelt and his ‘strenuous life’ speech and ideal for life.

When I started that decline I mentioned earlier, it's because I turned away from the Barbarian Virtues, the Strenuous Life, the life of 'training for improvement', and inched closer to where society, where popular culture and every source of media available was pushing me...
SOCIETY IS SOFT, AND IF YOU’RE NOT ACTIVELY BECOMING TOUGHER, IT CAN RUB OFF ON YOU.
Men are protectors. There will always be men who assault and kill and hard those who can be harmed, and if there aren’t good men who have the capacity for danger, it will get worse, those who cannot defend themselves will be attacked and abused.

When society softens, it decays. And the same thing happens to a man.

There are countless examples of how society is becoming soft, whether it’s participation trophies for kids, a hypersensitivity in our society, a move to where truth is now offensive and feelings are facts…

They’re endless.

But, to be honest, our concern right now isn’t society, it’s us as individual men.

MEN, being the keyword.

Men are protectors, defenders. We’re breadwinners. We’re conquerors. We're winners. We're ALPHAs.

Deep within us lies an ambition that has to be met for us to feel like we’ve been here for a reason. We need victory like we need air. To deny this is to guarantee that you’ll die with regret, filled with regret, wishing you’d aimed higher and worked better.

Study James Cook and you’ll see proof of this need to constantly go where no man has gone before.

Study Theodore Roosevelt and Frederick Russell Burnham and you’ll see that constant motion is man’s plight in life, and that to live easy, to accept mediocrity is to go against your very DNA.
YOU NEED WILD AMOUNTS OF SUCCESS!
Because of the testosterone that flows through our bodies, we have a greater capacity for strength, power, and aggression. But also increased ambition. Men want to take more risks than women…

...They want to accomplish great things, and when they’re kids this natural tendency is very visible.

And, as John Wayne said, “You’ve gotta be a man before you can be a gentleman.”
Even for those who want improvement
the self-help industry doesn't really focus on you helping yourself, but on teaching soft virtues, values that men can't identify with.
What men need is to be challenged to become better than we are, and we need these challenges every day.

If you don't want to reach your potential, if you don't want greatness, then you don't need to be challenged, but if you do, you need to do what others aren't doing, you need to train for victory rather than waiting.

Waiting, existing, doing what the rest of society does, is decaying.

You cannot decay!

You've got dreams, and those dreams need to be won.

Think of this niche...

With this decline in masculine values, there’s a crop up of web sites that are designed to help men feel good about themselves, to look the part, to dress smarter, to understand how to pick up women using tricks and tactics designed to cover up their weaknesses that women may not be able to pinpoint, but can innately sense.

For example…
A study out of the Journal of Evolutionary Biology found that women perceive men with beards as more masculine and dominant. They say, “Facial hair not only equates with maturity and masculinity, but with dominance and aggression.”

Women do not want a soft, sedated, skinny, weak, girly-man when they’re looking for a mate. They actively - or subconsciously - look for men who at least have the appearance of a BARBARIAN to be their protector and provider and the father of their children.

And those are the GOOD women. The hussies will also look for a dominant man, often in the form of financial power, but physical power as well.
THE ANTIDOTE TO MEDIOCRITY IS FOUND IN OUTLAWED PRINCIPLES
The way we're living, even sometimes what we're pursuing, is out of line with our DNA. We need to turn back the clock, look to great men and tribes and cultures of history, to find out how to be the elite ALPHAS we can all be...

My solution wasn’t in a new age self-help book.

Simply put, the solution for every man who wants to find greatness, who wants to conquer and win and protect and provide…

...Who wants to create a lasting legacy, to do more than exist but to truly live…

Has to live by principles and virtues that society is turning it's back on.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else says, men need to be strong or else we’re useless. We need to be dangerous, or else we’re open to being controlled and taken over. We need to be powerful because…

Men need achievement!

We need to win.

No matter what society says about fulfillment and participation and meaning and purpose, men find each through victory, by becoming great at something, by winning and achieving goals!
SOFTNESS STANDS IN THE WAY OF SUCCESS
Today, we can’t help but become soft in comparison to the Caesers, Napoleons, Dunhams (more on him later), and Roosevelts of history.

We have central heating. We sit all day, even when we’re going somewhere in our modern gas-fueled chariots.

Forget about the fact that society is trying to soften men by changing our values, technology and advancement is doing a great job of this on its own.
THE PROBLEM: LIFE, SUCCESS, VICTORY,
THEY HAVEN’T CHANGED. WE STILL NEED THE VIRTUES THAT WON CAESAR ROME, NAPOLEON FRANCE, AND ROOSEVELT A STRENUOUS LIFE.
We still overcome struggles by adopting such archaic virtues.

We still acquire power by those same avenues.

We still live a great, active, adventurous life by the same route.

How Theodore Roosevelt Went From Bedridden to President.

Theodore Roosevelt was born sickly, with asthma (then a potentially deadly affliction) and spent much of his early years bedridden as the doctors determined that this was the best way to deal with his affliction. Roosevelt’s father, Theodore Senior, would not have a weak son, he saw no life in being weak, and thank God he had his own ideas on parenting and how to defeat illness, because if he didn’t America wouldn’t have many of her national parks, nor much of the wisdom that Senior’s son loudly preached to a nation. It’s wisdom, in part, born in how his father saw to his illness.

One day Senior took Junior, saying, “Theodore you have the mind but you have not the body, and without the help of the body the mind cannot go as far as it should. I am giving you the tools, but it is up to you to make your body.”

Before his father could go on, Theodore responded by exclaiming, “I will make my body!”

It’s in these instances that fathers make their sons fighters rather than victims. This is good parenting. Coddling and caring isn’t the best way to build a young man.
From there, the Roosevelts built a gym where young Theodore would lift weights and box and regardless of the weather, young Theodore committed to climbing mountains and partaking in a way of life he would later call, “the strenuous life”.

He would go on to box and row at Harvard, and again against doctors orders - who wanted him to find an office job where he could avoid strenuous activity due to heart problems as a young lad - sought greater and greater challenges.

He went on to become the President of the United States, he served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy under President William McKinley, but resigned from that post to lead the Rough Riders during the Spanish–American War where he became a war hero, marching toward the fire rather than hiding from it. He was a rancher, a writer, a family man. After his Presidency, rather than sitting quietly he again tried to join the U.S. Military, but was denied, so he travelled to Brazil and mapped new areas in and around the Amazon River.

His father called him to a life of action, and Theodore never stopped moving forward.
MYTH: YOU WILL RISE TO THE OCCASION IN LIFE
The path to power, be it wealth, happiness, control over your future (or some semblance of control), or the ability to provide for and protect your loved ones has never been won, and will never be won by softness.

Softness, for a man, is his decay.  

And if you're not training to become tougher, you'll quit when times get tough, you won't rise to the occasion, no one does.

We fall back on our training.

You train your body, but do you train to become a better man?

Do you train the skills that will bring about success, power, and victory?
Be A Conqueror, A King
Our society, your family, your community, do not need another victim. You do not need to be a victim. Victimhood is entirely subjective, and kinghood is a choice.

What man wants to be a subject?

What man wants to be a victim?

What man wants to be soft, sedated, and weak?

Earlier I mentioned that society is pushing men to be weaker, softer, and more vulnerable. It’s not only bad for society, but for the individual as well. As we become a more open, emotional society, suicide rates in men rise.

These vulnerability-pushers look down upon the Greatest Generation, the stoic, quiet, hard-working men who grew up in the Great Depression, went to battle in the Second World War, and then came home and built the greatest economy the world had ever seen because they didn’t talk about their feelings.

They look at them as archaic. Yet, they didn’t kill themselves.

They had far tougher lives, but they knew it.

They saw the life was going to be difficult, and dealt with it, often working multiple jobs, working long hours, but providing for and protecting their families in the process.

Today, we expect life to be great, and when it proves to be difficult, we break.

While society needs men who have the Barbarian Virtues, and while this program may benefit society, it’s really only about you.
Everything You Want in Life is Made More
Likely By Adopting These Virtues, By Making Them a Part of Who You Are
You’re here to become more powerful than you were when you got here. You’re here to end better than you were when you started. You’re here to set up your children with a better life than you had.

You’re here to improve your lot, your station in life, and the only path to do all of that, to gain power, wealth, happiness, meaning, is to become someone better.

Improvement, for men, isn’t merely about building better skills, it’s about being better, first, at being a man.

Masculinity is necessarily rough, tough, and courageous.

Men conquer. Men protect. Men defend.

The foundation of the guy you’re trying to become, who’s likely very successful or good at something, who’s kind and honest, who’s a leader by example and not mere words, has to be this capacity for brutality, or the good qualities mentioned are to little or no avail.

But this baseline masculinity isn’t merely theory, it’s not about thinking rough or tough, it’s a matter of being adventurous, dangerous, while also being excellent.
The Roman Definition of Masculinity
The Romans saw manliness as excellence in all things.

That’s a very difficult and unforgiving quest. It’s taking the stance that, no, you’re not perfect the way you are, and every day, for the rest of your life, you’re going to work at improving this blob that was put here, born to two parents, and sent out into the world to conquer.

This ‘excellence in all things’ outlook means you do not ‘take it easy’ in one aspect of life as a reward for hard work in another.

In my own life this is very simple, in a few ways.

I work hard at my work, but that doesn’t reward me by allowing me to take it easy when it comes to keeping my house clean - both on the inside and the outside. It does not mean that I can be lazy when it comes to my sweetheart.

Excellence in all things demands that I work very hard at my work, but then I continue to work hard on my home, and I continue to work hard on my relationship.

Men, we do not rest.

Rather than waiting for life to show me how to find greatness, I decided to create the virtues, the structure, to ensure greatness, and they're all based on this incredible quote from Theodore Roosevelt...

Roosevelt saw that society was getting soft even in the early 20th and late 19th centuries, and he had this to say about it...
“Over-sentimentality, over-softness, in fact washiness and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people. Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail.”
COURAGE, DARING
Without courage all other virtues fail. That same logic can be applied to a few other virtues you'll develop in this course, but courage is chasing your goals, having the will to overcome obstacles, defend your family, conquer what you feel is your destiny, and to live life on your own terms.

At its very base, courage is the act of being a man, it's taking your masculine power and strength and having the balls to use it. Too few have courage. Even fewer live the life they want to live, forever being held down by fear and regret. We will not exist like that.
AGGRESSION
Courage is great and necessary, but the truest antidote to fear is aggression, the two cannot exist at the same time.

You cannot be afraid while also being aggressive. And while it may seem 'barbaric' to be aggressive, that's the point. We're too soft. We too often fall in line or follow people who don't have our same ideals.

When you're aggressive you will not allow fear to deter whatever action is necessary for success. You will be successful. You will be a man.
SACRIFICE
Men sacrifice. We serve. We work longer hours than wanted so we can feed, cloth, house, and provide for our families so they're free to live how they want to live without having to burden themselves with things we take care of.

Sacrifice is how a man shows love. We're not soft and mushy, we're utilitarian. We show we care by giving ourselves to that caring, to improving ourselves to be better equipped to protect them - whoever 'they' may be.
SELF-DISCIPLINE
We reach our potential through nothing else but discipline. We earn through discipline. We build an empire through discipline. We find peace and power through discipline. We build our bodies and minds through discipline. We become who we want to become through discipline. Discipline is everything. It's the path of achievement. Without it you will be useless, filled with regret over what could have been but wasn't, because you never developed discipline.

If you want to succeed, we must develop and train discipline daily.
SELF-RELIANCE
It isn't that we're on an island, but that because of our ambitions, we'll inevitably find ourselves alone, having to thrive on our own.

Plus, no man wants to have to depend on others. We should be able to hunt and build and create whatever we need to with our own hands. This takes time and discipline to develop, but to be a 'barbarian' you cannot depend on others for protection, for sustenance, for safety, you should be the one others look to for such things.
TOUGHNESS
What's a man if he isn't tough? He's soft, weak, easily pushed around. A man isn't much of a man if he isn't at least tough.

The reality is, though, that toughness is fleeting, it's being replaced by softness, and not only men, but society suffers.

Toughness is VITAL to manhood, and can you ever be tough enough?

Toughness enables you to aspire for more, to dare mightily, while others rest in comfort and mediocrity.
FORTITUDE, ENDURANCE
Fortitude is toughness, but more than just toughness. It's resilience and endurance, it's being able to stick it through while all hell breaks around you.

Fortitude is what makes you a dependable man, it's what will make your dreams become your realities, for it's not the brightest or most talented who attains victory, it's the man with the fortitude to push through and succeed while all others quit that will win.

This virtue and the badge to go along with it is won over time, but it's something that every single man needs to find victory.
STRENGTH
Toughness, courage, they're rendered ineffective without strength. If you're a scrawny weakling, you're not going to be able to succeed with you're courage, you're going to be defeated, killed, conquered.

Strength is both of the mind and the body. You can have a weak body but a strong mind, and a strong body but a weak mind.

Both kinds of strength need to be trained and developed. You can't thrive nor win with only one of them.
MASTERY
Mastery is the skill or skills you need to succeed.

In battle, mastery is the skill to defeat a stronger opponent. In business, mastery is the skill that will help you earn more money, get your message out there, or rise through the company - be it sales, copywriting, marketing, and so forth.

You may be tough and strong, but if you don't possess and practice the skill, you're wasting said toughness and strength.

You may have talent and intelligence, but if you don't put the work in and practice the skills, you won't succeed like you want to.

My goal in 2018 is to read one health/fitness book per week. Some weeks are good, some are a waste of a week, and every so often there are books that give you an entirely new perspective on health and nutrition AND THEN lay it out in a done-for-you “this is what YOU should do” manner.
 
Chad Howse’s “The Man Diet” is one of these books.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned from reading other books is that you need to get enough fats from meats and nuts to boost testosterone but the big problem is that if you eat lots of fats, you're getting too many Calories and it's hard to build a lean and jacked physique. The key question is “how the heck do you do this and make it work for us mortal men?” In “The Man Diet”, Chad maps out this process in detail.

This book is split up into a few sections telling you what to eat to increase your testosterone levels, things you can do in the morning and evening (your testosterone routines). I've been using a few of these for weeks and my sleep has been better, my energy has skyrocketed. Chad knows what he's talking about (since he used to suffer from no testosterone levels).

This book is a quick read (162 pages), but there is absolutely ZERO fluff and every page has something interesting to learn. On top of this, "The Man Diet" is based on tons of research (approx. 100 references to studies), so you know that it's not just some BS that Chad pulled out of his hat.
