NEW STUDY: MODERN MEN HAVE A WEAKER GRIP THAN THEIR FATHERS
DO YOU HAVE MAN STRENGTH?
NEW STUDIES SHOW THAT IT'S DISAPPEARING FROM OUR SOCIETY...
EVEN IF YOU’RE ‘STRONG’, YOU LIKELY HAVE A WEAK, LIMP GRIP COMPARED TO PAST GENERATIONS
AND YOU WON’T DEVELOP CRUSHING MAN STRENGTH IN THE WEIGHT ROOM ALONE..
QUESTION: WHAT’S THE POINT OF BIG MUSCLES IF YOU HAVE A LIMP GRIP?
  • A strong grip is a sign of power and confidence.
  • A strong grip, to your lady, means that you can take care of her, defend her, provide for her, that your not a lady with facial hair and a dick.
  • A strong grip is a sign of manhood!
I remember being a kid, well, maybe in my early twenties, and wrestling with my old man or a buddy’s old man, and while I could lift a hell of a lot more than them in the weight room, they’d always somehow kick my ass…

...Especially if a buddy’s dad was a rancher or worked with his hands. It wasn’t even close, they’d get a hold of you and just ragdoll you.

There was a reason for that… something that weight training doesn’t account for or develop.

Man used to work with their hands, and progressively, over the past few decades, that is happening less and less.

As a result, men today have dramatically weaker grips than we used to, and they’re getting weaker, even as men are working out more and more, our grip strength is getting weaker and weaker.
The fact is, you can be weight room strength but man strength weak, and if new research is any indication, you’re likely FAR weaker where man strength is concerned than your grandfather was at your age.

Here’s a question to answer:

What impression are you giving out with your grip?

Your grip can be an actual indicator of your current physical condition – some studies indicate that a weak grip was an indicator for eventual disability later in life.

Having a weak grip conveys softness.

It’s like being the guy who’s insanely soft and effeminate, but also in great shape. He lathers his hands with moisteurizer, uses gloves in the gym, is impeccable condition, but you don’t look at him like a man.

He’s a trust-fund baby. He’s never won anything on his own. A woman wouldn’t look to him for protection. She wouldn’t view him as a MAN.

He’s soft.

The problem is that this soft-but-in-shape guy is becoming the norm.

The gym is great, but if you want to convey power in business, with women, and in your every day life, you can’t have a soft grip!

MEN NEED MAN STRENGTH
AND MAN STRENGTH IS EARNED WITH POWERFUL HANDS
Society is getting softer… We can all agree with that.

We don’t need to milk cows to get milk, kill animals to get meat, harvest crops to get fruits or vegetables.

We don’t need to fix our own homes…

We can sit all day and essentially be a fine, productive member of society, but this isn’t who we are.

The softer we get, the less capable we become, the less powerful we are and the less powerful we feel.
MEN NEED MAN STRENGTH!
GRIP STRENGTH IS NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS IN ANY SPORT (ESPECIALLY COMBAT SPORTS)
You’re a protector, first and foremost.

That’s what a man is, he protects and provides, and being a protector is a must. And no matter the combat sport you’re talking about, be it boxing, kickboxing, BJJ or wrestling, a strong grip is a must.

In fact, you can specifically train ‘the holding grip’, to develop a vice-like grip that will allow you to carry more, and will put the fear of God in the bad guys eyes when you grab a hold of him and he realizes he’s not getting away.
MEN NEED A GOOD GRIP FOR BUSINESS
The WORST effect of a weak hand grip is a weak handshake!

It’s effeminate, soft, and weak to go into a business deal or negotiation with a limp handshake! It shows a lack of confidence, and a complete lack of leadership.

When you have a naturally powerful grip, it has a powerful effect.

“Most guys today either have a soft handshake, or you can tell they’re trying way too hard to have a strong handshake. Either way it comes off as weak.”
Developing a naturally powerful grip by actually training your grip (you can’t get a strong grip simply by doing what you’ve done to this point, plus there are 3 kinds of grip, and I’d bet $ that you’re only training 1 at most) gives you a leg up on everyone.

It makes you the man of the room, especially when the rest of that room has a limp handshake.
STUDY: THE DECLINE OF MAN STRENGTH
In a recent study, researchers rounded up 237 healthy men ages 20-34 and asked them to grab a hand dynamometer, which measures how much force a person can exert by squeezing their hand. Then the researchers compared those measurements with grip strength standards from 1985.

The results:

Most 20– to 24-year-old dudes averaged 101-lb grips in their right hands and 99-lb grips with their left.

Compare them to 20- to 24-year-old men in 1985, who averaged 121 and 105 lbs.

Millennials aged 25–29 were even worse, with grips that are 26 and 19 pounds weaker than the previous generation.

Grip strength isn’t just a sign of a lack of masculinity, or the emasculation of society, a weak grip has also been shown to increase your likelyhood of getting cancer, heart disease, or having a premature death:

STUDY: Researchers tested the grip strength of about 140,000 people aged 35 to 70 across 17 low-, medium- and high-income countries, and then followed them for an average of four years. After adjusting for a variety of factors (such as age, education level, physical activity level, and tobacco use), the researchers found that every 5-kg decrease in grip strength was associated with a 16 percent increase in death from all causes, a 17 percent increase in death from heart disease, a 17 percent increase in death from an illness not related to heart disease (such as cancer), a 7 percent increase in the risk of a heart attack and a 9 percent increase in the risk of stroke.
YOU WON’T GET A HAND-CRUSHING GRIP
BY DEFAULT: YOU NEED TO GO HARDCORE WITH YOUR GRIP TRAINING
The forearms, wrists and the hands are involved in the grip. These areas have a bunch of muscles, joints and ligaments that are interwoven and act together to create the grip. Targeting all of these areas is vital for maximizing the potential for your own grip.

Typical weight training works the grip in an indirect manner, but direct and specific training is even better

Beyond that minimal amount, the development of the forearms is largely neglected. And if you don’t lift weights, you have even less grip development. This neglect of the grip hasn’t always been an issue. Bodybuilders and lifters from the “Big Arm” era dedicated specific time to work on the forearms.

Arnold, for instance, spent time each week specifically working his forearms, as did many of the lifters who had a pair of powerful forearms. It was common back then to work the forearms and the grip as well, in a weekly training routine. People have gotten away from that habit, to the detriment of the modern man’s grip.

The power and strength you hold in your hands does matter, and can often make a big difference in a everything from changing a tire to opening a container for your lady.
A powerful grip gives you a definite advantage in virtually all things that are physical.

Greatest Generation Grip

The Greatest Generation, the generation that survived the Great Depression and then went to War to kill Nazis, grew up milking cows and using their grip for a thousand different things. And they had huge forearms, loaded with muscle, power and endurance.

You rarely see these types of really thick forearms anymore. Now most likely you can’t go out and milk a cow to build up your forearms. And the most activity your hands receive is manipulating your smart phone or video game controller.

However, even if you have neglected them for a long time, it is still possible for you to build incredible forearms; forearms that really stand out.

Building a crushing grip is something that doesn’t just happen by chance. You have to purposely pursue it. You have to set aside some training time that can be dedicated specifically to grip building. You have to make a commitment to getting a powerful grip. Since our culture is in the information age, you most likely won’t be doing anything that works your grip unless you are deliberate about it.
YOUR FOREARMS ARE YOUR MAN CLEAVAGE
From an aesthetics standpoint, your forearms are like a lady’s cleavage, when you’re wearing short sleeves, they GET NOTICED.

It’s a fast and easy way to look like a damn man in a sea of boys!

With strong, bulging forearms, you’re going to set yourself apart from the rest of our soft society, and our DNA, how we’re hardwired, hasn’t changed, no matter what the mainstream media says:
WOMEN WANT A MANLY MAN, NOT A SOFT BOY
By having a strong grip, and the hands and forearm muscles to go with it, you trigger something inside women that many of them don’t know exists…

It’s deep in their DNA, this desire to be with someone who they know can protect and provide for them, and your jacked forearms signals that, and they respond, trust me.

For years I trained my hands using the 3 kinds of grip training when I was fighting. As a result my forearms are solidly developed, and above all else they act like a beacon, my lady even told me that the thing she noticed first was my forearms, she couldn’t explain it, but she was so used to seeing skinny forearms that made her think of a boy, not a man.

Did you know that there are different types of grips?

When it comes to building the grip, a one-size, or one exercise, doesn’t cover all the bases. You need to employ the full range of grip training to achieve that crushing grip. And as you do, your grip will be transformed from pedestrian to powerful, from average to a crushing grip that stands out.
Grip Strength Types
Randall Strossen, sports psychologist, powerlifting guru, and purveyor of grip-building apparatus through his Iron mind company, says there's three types of grip strength:

Crushing: used in shaking hands, or crumpling a soda can in your fist
Pinching: used in, well, pinching something between your fingertips
Supporting: used in holding on to shopping bags or clinging to a ledge while rock climbing.

Martial artists need crushing and pinching grip strength the most. Even if you're not grappling with your opponent, grip strength comes into play when trapping and checking.

Strong fingers and hands are essential for preventing injury when punching with your fists, throwing finger jabs, or using knife-hand strikes to break boards and bricks
Grip Strength Anatomy
Two areas of your body contribute to grip strength: your hand, including the fingers and palm, and your forearms, including your wrists.

You need to strengthen your fingers and other parts of your hand to help prevent injury when striking, especially with non-fist strikes like the finger jab, eagle claw, or backhand strike.  The same is true for athletic involvement – your fingers need to be as strong as possible so you can exert maximum force, whether on a ball, an opponent, or a bar.

You also need to strengthen the wrist so that it doesn't collapse upon impact during a punch, or that it can withstand the twisting of an Aikido throw. Both the hand and the forearm are important to strengthen in order to gain a strong grip.

These same muscle groups are also needed for sports such as rock climbing, football, basketball, and more.

Now that you know what muscles and what type of grips are involved in a crushing grip, the next step is to get busy working on your own grip.

Key Elements to Know:
  • Unless you are a farmer or dock worker, a crushing grip doesn’t just occur – you have to create a crushing power.

  • The grip comes from the muscles of the hands, wrists and forearms.

  • The grip is multifold and contains supporting power, pinching power, and crushing power.  Aim at building up all three areas.
